What is an apprenticeship ?

It’s a combined training program that comprises :
• on-the-job training
• theoretical study in an Apprenticeship Training Center within an apprenticeship training unit or an apprenticeship cohort.

This on-the-job experience contributes to increasing your employability.

Who can benefit ?

You can be employed by a company under an apprenticeship agreement if you are 16 to 25 years old at the start of the agreement
(or at the age of 15 subject to certain conditions).

Please note that foreign students from a country outside of the European Union must :
• Be holders of a temporary residence permit that specifies them as an “employee”
• Be holders of a valid residence card
• Or, in the case of minors, provide the receipt for an application for a residence permit.

Young people with disability can begin an apprenticeship after their 26th birthday. In this case, an exemption can be requested at www.travail-emploi.gouv.fr

What is the apprenticeship agreement ?

• A fixed-term contract of six months to three years depending on the degree pursued.
(The agreement can have a duration of four years in the case of apprentices with disability.)
• A permanent contract with an apprenticeship period at the beginning of the contract

An apprenticeship agreement establishes the respective obligations of the three parties involved :
• The employer
• The apprentice
• The training center

For what remuneration ?

Depending on the age and level of qualification, the salary that corresponds to a percentage of the minimum wage. Calculation of the remuneration

Who funds the training ?

Tuition fees are covered by public and private funding. Accommodation, food and transport are payable by the salary. However, many Regional Councils will cover a part of these costs.

What are the advantages?

• A training and qualifications that are highly desirable in the employment market, certified by a recognized degree or a certificate registered in the National Register of Professional Certification.

Otherwise
The salary apprenticeship contract is not recognized in the company’s workforce.
Since 2012, in more than 250 employees businesses, apprentice should represent 4% of the workforce. In case of non-compliance, they will be penalized.
Public Company : attention, the conclusion of an apprenticeship contract is subject to specific regulations www.service-public.fr .
